Pure Protein’s debut EP Winner Goes Home is out today. This self-released EP features the three singles released earlier this year, plus two brand new songs: “Winner Goes Home” and “Dog Hill.” It’s a soothing yet refreshing mix of dream pop and indie rock, with a hint of emo revival (think of in the vein of Turnover meets Day Wave). Coupled with his nostalgic genre fusion, Pure Protein adds expressive lyrics infused with honesty and a sense of longing that sweep you along for the ride. Check out the phosphene-esque inspired music video for “Molly Urethane” below:
Before moving to Los Angeles, M.W. Powell was based in Mississippi where he became entwined with with Southern alternative music scene and the now infamous (and retired) Oxford-based Cats Purring music collective. From there, he was able to hone his production and songwriting chops that would lay the foundation for his endeavor as Pure Protein. With this project, M.W Powell aims to create something familiar while still claiming his own sonic niche.
